Calvin Lab (or "The Melvin Calvin Laboratory") dates back to 1963 and is named in honor of Melvin Calvin (1911–1997), a long-time Berkeley chemist and Nobel laureate who is noted for uncovering the mechanisms underlying photosynthesis. As part of a 2013 renovation to the building, a 110 seat auditorium was built with Irwin Seating model 27.12.17.4 Allegro.

The seating features wood aisle panels, backs and comfort curved armrests finished in No. 8 Natural. The Allegro chairs are upholstered with Momentum, Insight, Shale fabric and equipped foot shrouds and 151 sq. inch writing tablets.
